Toor dal/ thuvara parippu ½ cup
Green tomato 1 big, cut to cubes
Green chilly 2 nos
Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
Grated coconut 3-4 TBSP
Cumin seeds ¼ tsp
Salt as needed
In a pressure cooker, add the dal, green tomato, green chilly, turmeric powder and salt along with 1 ½ cups water and cook till 2 whistles. Allow pressure to release itself.
Meanwhile, grind together coconut and cumin seeds to a coarse paste. Open pressure cooker and add this paste to the dal. Switch flame back on and bring to boil.
Notes: If you prefer, you can do the tempering with mustard seeds and dry red chilly. I personally prefer this dal without tempering.
